Getting started

What is HopGrid?

HopGrid is a car and bike pooling app: people driving somewhere share their free seats with others going the same way. One account can both offer rides and join them.

How do I sign in?

With your Google account. Your name and email come from Google; you can add your phone number, photo and other details in the app under Account → Personal Info.

Where do I use HopGrid?

In the HopGrid app. Open HopGrid from this website to use it in your browser. Finding, booking and offering rides all happen in the app, not on this website.

Finding and booking a ride

How do I find a ride?

Search with where you are going from and to, and when. Rides leaving within 30 minutes of your time that pass near your pickup and drop are shown. Open one and send a request for your own pickup and drop.

What if nobody offers my trip yet?

Request a ride: tell HopGrid your trip and when. It keeps looking and tells you when a ride that fits is offered; you then ask for a seat the usual way. A ride request is not a booking.

How long does the driver have to answer?

Until 10 minutes before the ride leaves. No seat is held until the driver accepts. A request not answered by then lapses and you are told; nothing is charged. If a driver declines your request, you cannot ask for that ride again.

How do I cancel a booking?

Open the ride from My Rides → My Bookings and choose Cancel Ride, any time before the ride leaves and before you have boarded. The app shows what comes back before you confirm. If you had paid, 50% of the trip fare is refunded and the service fee is kept.

What happens if the driver cancels the ride?

Your booking is cancelled, you are told in the app, and anything you paid is refunded in full, the service fee included.

Offering a ride

How do I offer a ride?

Add your vehicle and verify your driving licence in the app, then choose Offer a Ride with your route, time, vehicle and free seats. You do not set a price: the fare is worked out from the distance and the kind of vehicle. Accept or decline the requests you get before the deadline shown.

Why do I need a driving licence to offer rides?

Only drivers with a verified licence can offer rides. You upload it in the app and a person reviews it, so it is not instant; until it is approved you can still join rides as a passenger.

What happens if I cancel rides I offered?

Cancelling a ride that had accepted bookings counts against you; the app warns you before you confirm. After every third such cancellation you cannot offer rides for 7 days. Cancelling a ride nobody was accepted on does not count.

Fares and payments

How is the fare worked out?

From the driving distance between your own pickup and drop, multiplied by a rate per kilometre that depends on the kind of vehicle, with a minimum fare for short trips. You pay for your part of the journey, not the driver’s whole route. The app shows the fare, the service fee and the total before you ask for a seat.

What is the service fee?

A fee added once to each booking, shown on its own line before you pay and on your receipt. The total is always your fare plus the service fee.

How do I pay?

By UPI through our payment partner, Razorpay, after the driver has accepted your request. Cards, net banking and cash are not accepted in the app.

When do I get a refund?

If the driver cancels: everything you paid, the service fee included. If you cancel after the driver accepted: 50% of your trip fare; the service fee is kept. A refund is started straight away and shows as pending until our payment partner confirms it.

Safety and trust

What should I do in an emergency?

Call 112 straight away. HopGrid does not call the police or an ambulance for you.

What does the SOS button do?

It records an alert with HopGrid for the ride you are on, with the time, for a person to review. That is all it does: it does not call emergency services or tell your contacts. In danger, call 112 first.

Can other users see my phone number or email?

No. Other users see your first name, photo, ratings and trust facts such as whether your account is verified. You talk to the people on your ride through the app’s chat.

How do I report a problem or block someone?

Open the ride. Safety → Report an incident is for anything that felt unsafe; Report a problem is for a no-show, wrong ride details, behaviour or payment. A person looks at every report. You can also block the other person: from then on you will not see each other’s rides, and rides you already share stay booked.

What are "Women drivers only" and "Women recommended"?

"Women drivers only" is an optional search filter for users whose own profile says female; it shows only drivers whose profile says female. "Women recommended" means enough passengers who travelled with that driver ticked "recommend for women" when rating them. It is feedback, not a guarantee of safety.

What is the boarding OTP?

A code shown on your booking shortly before the ride. Tell it to the driver when you get in; they enter it to confirm you boarded. Do not share it with anybody else.

Updates and support

How will I know when something happens?

Requests, answers, payments, refunds, cancellations, reminders before a ride leaves and ratings appear in the app’s Notifications. You can choose which of them are pushed to your device in Settings → Notifications; safety alerts are always on.

How do I contact support?

In the app: Account → Help & Support → Contact Support. You can follow your request, and read the reply, under My requests. There is no live chat or phone line.
