Terms and Conditions

Draft. This text describes how HopGrid works today. It has not yet been reviewed by a qualified legal professional and has no effective date.

These terms describe how HopGrid works and what is expected of everybody who uses it. HopGrid connects people who are driving somewhere with people going the same way. It is not a transport operator and does not employ drivers.

Your account

  • You sign in with your Google account and are responsible for what is done with it.
  • Keep your profile accurate. Your gender, if you give it, is only what you choose.
  • One person, one account. Do not let somebody else ride or drive under your name.

Offering rides

  • You need a valid driving licence, verified in the app, and a vehicle you may lawfully drive and carry passengers in.
  • You are responsible for your vehicle, its insurance and documents, and for driving lawfully and safely.
  • You do not set a price. The fare is worked out from the distance and the kind of vehicle.
  • Accept only the requests you will honour, and answer them before the deadline shown.

Joining rides

  • A request is not a booking until the driver accepts it. Pay only after acceptance.
  • Be at your pickup on time and give the driver your boarding OTP when you get in.
  • Travel only on rides you booked in the app.

Fares, service fee and payment

  • A passenger's fare is the driving distance between their own pickup and drop, multiplied by the rate for the kind of vehicle, with a minimum fare for short trips.
  • HopGrid adds a service fee, shown separately before payment. The total is the fare plus the service fee.
  • Payment is by UPI through our payment partner. Cards, net banking and cash are not accepted in the app.
  • The fare is passed on to the driver through the payment partner; the service fee is kept by HopGrid.

Cancellations and refunds

These follow the Cancellation and Refund Policy, which is part of these terms.

Ratings and reports

  • After a completed ride each side may rate the other once. Ratings must be honest and cannot be changed.
  • Reports to Support and Safety must be truthful. A report is looked at by a person before anything is decided.

Restrictions on accounts

  • A driver who cancels three rides that had accepted bookings cannot offer rides for 7 days. This is applied automatically and ends by itself.
  • HopGrid may suspend an account, for a time or until further review, after reviewing a breach of these terms, the Community Guidelines or the Safety Guidelines. The reason and the dates are recorded.
  • A suspended account can still view and cancel its rides and bookings, and use Support and Safety.
  • You can ask for a review of a restriction by sending a request through Contact Support.

What HopGrid is responsible for

HopGrid provides the app with reasonable care. It does not drive, own or inspect the vehicles, and cannot promise that a ride will take place or how a person will behave. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the law that cannot be limited by agreement.

Changes and contact

These terms may change. The version and date at the top tell you which text applies. Questions go to Help & Support → Contact Support.
